UFO: An Unexplained Pension Object

Pension providers often forget about the customer after the
Uniform Pensioen Overzicht (UPO - Uniform Pension Summary) has been sent. This is the
conclusion arrived at by the authors Ties Rijkers and Katelijn Meijer in their article
“UPO voelt als UFO: Een Unexplained Pension Object” which appeared in the
Verzekeringsblad (Insurance Magazine). By using a random sample, they called pension
providers with questions about the UPO, which a novice would ask. The conclusions are far
from exemplary. Terms were frequently incorrectly explained or interwoven with
terminology which the average Dutch person would not understand. The authors provide tips
in the article for how pension providers could make their customers the focus and turn
the UPO into a Useful Pension Object.
